The Sewing Bug Bites Again

I should know better; the fabric section at Wal-mart is not a place I should be, especially near a holiday. On Tuesday, despite knowing I shouldn't, I decided just to peruse the fabric section. Who was I kidding? I saw the cutest Halloween fabric for $2 a yard and decided the cuties just had to have matching Halloween pajama bottoms, so I bought the fabric, went home, and got to work; here are the products of my labor.

(Look at her sad little face :( )

(I know some of you are getting tired of seeing my pajama bottom projects, but the only sewing lessons I have had are hemming, pajama bottoms, and hooded towels. Be patient, I hope to tackle a dress project for Brooke soon; wish me luck!)

This is the Reason Why

With Braden and Brooke, I often wondered why we needed to child proof. We put a lock on the toilet, a lock on the refrigerator, door knob covers on, put cleaners up high, and put plug protectors everywhere, but as time went on little by little the child proofing disappeared; we simply didn't need it. Though Braden and Brooke both loved to get into the dishwasher, and...

...Braden got into a new bottle of acrylic blue paint and proceeded to make art work on our new carpet (thankfully we have a steam cleaner), life with Braden and Brooke was relatively calm, in regards to general destruction.

So little by little as I said, our child proof elements began to disappear from our home, and I wondered why we needed them; that is, until this little beauty joined our family.
The day Emma joined our family, everything changed in the Maseda house, and it will NEVER be the same! In the last 18 months, I have become much wiser, and I have learned many things. Mostly I have learned that the reason we need to child proof is because of children like Emma Maseda; she is why you need to lock it up, hide it, and guard all that you hold dear, for not only her good but yours as well.

She is why you need to put doorknob locks on all of your doors.

She is why you lock your computer to prevent crashing.

She is why you remember to always shut your bathroom door to prevent a certain baby going through all of your belongings, since she has discovered how to bypass the measly little lock you put on your top drawer, her drawer of choice (that is where the make-up is located).

She is also the reason you remember to keep your closet door closed, so you are not finding your shoes ALL over the house, in the oddest places!

She is the reason you put a lock on your cabinets, so you don't find your sifter, food chopper, and pot lids scattered throughout your house, or worse, can't locate them when you really need them!
(Don't you love these sleepy, just woke up pictures!?!)

So there you have it folks, I have learned that Emma is why we child proof, at least she is the reason in our home. With this new found knowledge, I have also learned that the reason Heavenly Father made these mischief makers so cute, is because when you are tempted to kill them, you will kiss them instead. How could you possibly look at this cute mischief maker and want to kill her?!!!!? Her cheeks are just calling out for kisses!

How can you not love Family Fun?!

I absolutely love the Family Fun website; they have fantastic ideas! The most recent craft idea I got from there was their ingenious idea for Ghost Chair Covers. I wanted to make them last year, when I first saw the idea, but I couldn't get it in gear to get the project completed; I was determined this year would be different. So, I am here to present our four ghost chair covers.

If you haven't already, check out http://www.familyfun.com/; they really do have the best ideas and recipes!

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!

Did I mention that I loved this movie?!!! Rich and I went on a date last night, two weekends in a row, how did we get so lucky? Oh yeah, Mama came to visit, and told us to feel free to go on a date while she was here; we of course jumped at the offer! Anyway, we went to eat supper and see this FANTASTIC movie! I saw the preview initially and was hooked; I decided that Rich and I HAD to see it! For those that don't know, I am of the believe that you should never get lax in your relationship with your husband. I think you should be ever diligent in looking for ways to constantly connect with your spouse, and now that Rich is the Bishop, I am even more diligent. I'm having to make the most of the time we do have, so that it is quality when it can't always be quantity. With Rich being Bishop and having a demanding job at work, it would be all to easy for me to be left behind if Rich and I don't make time for each other and our marriage; I think that is why I loved this movie so much! It is a great movie about doing the right things for your marriage to work and making Heavenly Father a part of your marriage and your life. I recommend the movie to everyone! Did I mention that I LOVED IT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is even more impressive about the movie and one of the main actors Kirk Cameron is this:
U.S. actor Kirk Cameron said he has vowed not kiss any woman but his wife -- even if it is part of a film or television role.

Cameron told reporters in New York his spouse of 17 years, Chelsea Noble, stood in for his co-star Erin Bethea for a romantic scene in his new film "Fireproof," which was No. 4 at the U.S. box office this weekend.

"I don't kiss any other women regardless of the fact that I'm an actor," the former teen heartthrob explained. "So, I asked my wife if she would do this ... She came to the set and she put on the dress the actress was wearing and we shot the scene in silhouette, so it is a very romantic-looking scene in silhouette. ... And it was my wife Chelsea. She put on a wig and a dress in silhouette, so it gave us the ability to really make a movie about honoring marriage above all things and then be able to honor my marriage personally."

It also made me feel even more blessed that I married this

STUD!

I wouldn't want anyone else by my side in this life and the next!

Our New Tradition

Tonight we started a new tradition. I decided that on October 1st of every year henceforth will be a night of a Halloween themed feast. We began the afternoon with Boo Cups, which I ceremoniously presented the children after making them close their eyes, reminding them numerous times not to peek until I said it was okay.

Their reactions:

The real feast began tonight though, when we dined on our lunch trays (remember, reserved for special occasions). We dined on such delectable treats as hot dog mummies, roasted ghosts, and witches fingers (know as green beans to the uninformed layman), and we washed all of our scrumptious and delicious delicacies down with Bug Juice (most of the recipes courtesy of Family Fun).

Hot Dog Mummies:

Roasted Ghost:

Witches' Fingers:

Bug Juice:

(It was supposed to have "bugs" a.k.a raisins floating in it, but I vetoed them; just pretend the ice cubes are maggots.)

Apple Festival

Last Friday all of the kindergartners at Braden's school participated in an Apple Festival, and luckily I got to attend; I went back and forth from Braden's classroom station and to where ever Braden was at the moment, you know I HAD to get pictures of the event! They had 10 stations of activities set up for all of the kindergartners, and they just went from station to station until they had completed each activity; if Braden would have had his way, he would have just set up camp at the Apple Juice station. You'll notice in the pictures that his friend Bianca and he are quite inseparable.

Braden's First Soccer Game

Well last Tuesday Braden had his first soccer game. I can't say he actually made contact with the ball, but he loved being out on the field running around after all of the other children. We discovered later, that he thought the other kids would be mad if he tried to take the ball; Rich has since rectified that misconception, and Braden's soccer game last night was much different. Here are some pictures from his first official game.

And what did Emma do during the game?
Let me show you.

First she proceeded to walk onto the field, lay down, and make herself quite comfortable.

Second, she showed everyone that she knows where her nose is located.

Third she watched the game intently.

Next she clapped for her big brother and his teammates.

And then finally, after the game was over, she proceeded to tackle one of the siblings of Braden's teammates, which as you can see, started out in fun and ended up with a very unhappy little girl (you guessed it, the unhappy girl was not Emma; tackling for her is always huge fun, just ask her usual victims, Braden and Brooke).

I guess it is good that Emma is such a character; she can keep us entertained when Braden is not on the field.
